Snow Patrol aside, Arctic Monkeys are hands down my favorite band. I find their music to be absolutely brilliant and can listen to it on repeat for infinity, which is why I was so psyched to see them this summer. The crowd was insane (in the bad way) and moshing all over the place, which detracted from the experience. I mean, I went there with the plan to dance my ass off to my favorite music, but there were moments where I was trying so hard to fend off crazy people throwing themselves around that I couldn’t focus on the songs. But the band was, as hoped, absolutely sublime. Alex is amazing (and the definition of sexy) and they sound just as fantastic live as they do on their albums. There wasn’t much chit chat, but that was fine with me since they came their to perform and did so with fantastic energy. I could seriously just sit there and watch Alex sing for hours; he’s always so in sync with the emotion of the music and often looked really sad - I found it kind of mesmerizing. They played Library Pictures and Brick by Brick off the new album, which are two of my favorite tracks, as well as Hellcat Spangled Shalalala which is a new single I guess. Otherwise I was kind of disappointed by some of the songs they didn’t play. I’d really wanted to hear A Certain Romance and From the Ritz to the Rubble but those were a no go. Oh well. It really didn’t take away from the experience at all since the songs they did play were sublime. At any rate, I still love the Arctic Monkeys and seriously can’t wait to see them again. Maybe they’ll be performing in the UK in the spring and I’ll get to attend another show. Can’t wait.
(Oh and I’ll post some of the photos I snagged on my iPhone tomorrow hopefully if they turned out okay.)
