Favorite Cinematic Moment/Thing #1: Captain Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp’s) entrance in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
(Now I know what plenty of you might be thinking: 30 moments from such grand cinematic masterpieces as Mean Streets, Singin’ in the Rain, The Good the Bad and the Ugly and To Kill A Mockingbird all narrowing down to - Pirates of the Caribbean? Yes, my dear followers, Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s the movie that made me fall in love with the energy and escapism that a good movie can generate and Johnny Depp’s flawless devotion to Capt. Jack Sparrow (which was at its best in the first film) proved that no matter how ridiculous something might initially sound (a movie based on the POTC ride at Disneyland even though a pirate movie hadn’t been bankable for decades? Who thought this was a smart project o back?), if the filmmakers are committed - and if that perfect creative spark is present - any movie - no matter how preposterous - can capture an audience’s heart and imagination. Capt. Jack is one of my favorite characters and from the moment he swept onto screen in his sinking ship - I was sold.)
